Leave No Child Inside

Louv is absolutely correct when he talks about kids being raised inside theses days, i see it every day, i very rarely see the neighbor kids playing outside. They'd rather play video games inside. Louv describes this turn in activity as "nature-deficit disorder." He goes on to describe how to solve this problem, building nature centered communities is one example. I thought the one he told about from california was pretty neat, in the center was natural walking paths and residents were all encouraged to have gardens in their yards, but this may be an unrealistic idea; can you bring kids outside away from the video games after they have already been sucked into the inside world? Lets hope that kids can be brought up outside because as Louv said, "If experiences in nature are radically reduced for children, where will the future stewards of the earth come from?" If kids are not raised to appreciate nature how can we expect the next generation to take care of it, I find this to be a big problem.

I agree with you on this I really do believe that children should be involved in nature and should go outside and play in nature instead of inside on electronics. I think the communities that Louv mentions are a little much for me. They are a little too much into nature, making their houses out of it is intense. I think that everyone should be part of it in some way like having a garden would be fin just as long as you are outside enjoying the world.

I completely agree with you about the younger generation not taking care of nature. With all the video games out today with the shooting of animals and people, what makes you think the kids will conserve the wildlife? If these younger kids don't get out and play our Earth could be troubled in the near future. Americans today need to force there kids to get outside. Weather its hot, cold, raining, or snowing. The kids need to get a feel for the outdoors so that they can gain more knowledge of what's around them.

So lets get the kids to put down the controllers and pick up a basketball, football, or Frisbee. Or, just get them to go climb trees and get dirty.
